Self-Guided WOW (Woodmere’s Outdoor Wonder) Tour
Take your family on an interactive journey throughout Woodmere’s grounds, encountering sculptures and immersive outdoor exhibits. Use a cell phone to scan QR codes at each station, or use our Interactive Map, available through Bloomberg Connects, to follow a route connecting grounds at both Charles Knox Smith Hall and Frances M. Maguire Hall. Enjoy the wonders of nature!

Sunday Family Art & Storytelling
Introduce your preschoolers to art experiences. Children will focus on one artwork, read a related story picture book, and create an art project with their adult companion. A fun and engaging way for children to enjoy art.
Occurs the first Sunday of most months, except for holidays.

Toddler Tours & Artful Play
Calling all artists who toddle! Join us for an hour of creative playtime in Woodmere's studios and galleries. Enjoy story time, a gallery walk, and an art project designed just for the museum's littlest visitors and their grown-ups. Art projects and activities change on a monthly basis.

Cascarones Spontaneous-Crack-A-Thon at Woodmere Art Museum!
Join Woodmere on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 10:00 AM–3:00 PM at Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education for the Cascarones Spontaneous-Crack-A-Thon, a family festival celebrating the colorful tradition of cascarones, confetti-filled eggs cracked over the heads of friends and loved ones for good luck. In partnership with Philadelphia artist Marta Sánchez and Cascarones Por La Vida, the day will feature free cascarón decorating workshops, community celebration, and a large-scale participation event at 2:00 PM that will serve as an official Guinness World Record attempt for the largest simultaneous cascarón cracking. This free event is open to all ages, and registration is encouraged.

A Day at the Circus
During this special celebration and highlight of Circus-related artwork in our collection, enjoy readings of circus stories and books to inspire young artists to create puppets of their favorite characters, as well as fun entertainment! Philadelphia School of Circus Arts mime artists and stilt walkers will roam through Woodmere's galleries and fascinate the entire family. Aerial, trapeze, juggling, and tightwire artists from the Little Circus provide an interactive and fun-loving performance. Children can meet with the performers and learn some circus arts after the performance.

The Joy of Juneteenth, Family Festival
Join Woodmere Art Museum for our 2026 Juneteenth Celebration, The Joy of Juneteenth, an afternoon of art, storytelling, music, and community honoring Black history, culture, and joy on Friday, June 19th, 2-4 pm. From 2–3 PM, families can enjoy drop-in artmaking and storytelling activities exploring themes of freedom, legacy, and self-expression. From 3–4 PM, the celebration continues outdoors, weather permitting, on the front porch and pavilion with performances by students from local schools, including the DC DIAMONDS Step Team, and storytelling, poetry, music, and dance with Mama Nzinga, affectionately known as “The Poet.”

Straw Maze
Every Fall, Woodmere’s front lawn becomes a whimsical giant maze. Built with massive bales of straw and featuring unique designs each year, the Straw Maze provides fun and recreation for all ages.
Keep an eye out for the Straw Maze opening date this year!
FREE for Family Members
An adult must supervise children. Entrance to the Museum is free to adults whose children have tickets to the Straw Maze.

Lenape Stories & Games
Families can spend the day immersed in Lenape culture with Barbara “Bluejay” Michalski. Listen to Lenape stories and play traditional Lenape games such as Jackstraws (aka Pick Up Sticks) and Dice Game (Mamantickan). Children will learn to make their own hoop stick for a game of Hoop and Stick and also participate in Friendship Dances. As a member of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, Michalski serves on the Tribal Council and was recently appointed chief of culture, teaching the history of the Lenape Nation through crafts, storytelling, and artifacts.

An Evening of Storytelling with the Lenape Nation of PA
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, Morris Arboretum & Gardens and Woodmere host an evening of storytelling with indigenous voices from the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. Hear stories of Lenape history, language, and culture, and be treated to drumming and singing by the Stone Dog Drum. This annual celebration of Lenape culture is a collaboration between Woodmere, Morris Arboretum & Gardens, and the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania.

Circle of Trees
The Circle of Trees Celebration brings the community together at the start of the holiday season. Enjoy hot chocolate, cider and cookies, music, goodie bags for the kids, and a visit from (shhhhh!) Santa too, who arrives on an antique fire truck. Together we count down to the lighting of Woodmere and surrounding trees.
In partnership with CHBA and CHCA Chestnut Hill Business and Community Associations. Free, please bring a new, wrapped gift or book for children in need.

Holiday Victorian Cardmaking
Honoring Woodmere’s architectural and cultural history as a Victorian stone mansion, create holiday cards in the Victorian card-making tradition. Special papers, stickers, holiday images, ribbons, and "bling" are supplied, plus cards and envelopes, scissors, and glue sticks.
This free, fun family event is always a favorite as we gear up for the winter holiday season!

Martin Luther King Jr. Family Festival
During our annual celebration, visitors listen to stories of courage, strength, and determination of people committed to making freedom and racial equality a reality in their lives. Collage artmaking will celebrate the activism of Dr. King and many others involved in the Civil Rights Movement.Through engaging stories, uplifting music, and art making, young learners will discover the timeless values of compassion, equality, and unity that Dr. King fostered.
