Join us at Woodmere's Children's Studio at the Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education. Art projects in the studio will change on a weekly basis. Calling all artists who toddle! Join us for an hour of creative playtime in Woodmere's studios and galleries. Enjoy story time, a gallery walk, and an art project designed just for the museum's littlest visitors and their grown-ups. Art projects and activities change on a monthly basis.

Art becomes the common thread for building community every summer at Woodmere. Children and teens from different neighborhoods in the Philadelphia region meet at Woodmere to create a collaborative work of art. Working alongside professional artists, students design and construct an outdoor art installation that is incorporated into Woodmere’s gardens. Woodmere is grateful to the generous supporters who have helped underwrite expenses for this program.

Calling all budding artists and animal lovers! Discover the animal artwork found around the Maguire Hall galleries in this engaging art class. To inspire students’ artwork, they will look at depictions of animal environments, animals at play, animals with their human friends, and animal portraits in the galleries. Children will use fun materials to create animals that will come alive in paint, stand tall with cardboard, move around in mobiles, and be sculpted in clay. All materials included. Dress for mess!

Draw inspiration from the galleries at Maguire Hall with teacher-guided museum tours followed by making art in the MacDonald Children’s Art Studio. Students will become creators and curators by constructing their own diorama of a miniature museum. Each class will be spent developing a different section of their mini museum, including making their own original small-scale artwork. Use a range of materials to design wallpaper, install flooring and build a sculpture garden. The final day of class will include creating admission tickets and brochures, then taking a tour of classmates’ museums. All materials included. Dress for mess!

Students will explore the sculpture gardens at Woodmere for inspiration to create vibrant 3D works using a variety of art materials. Using mediums such as clay, paper mache, cardboard, beads and wire, students will explore how to make kinetic art that moves, form with clay, and build exciting sculptures. Adding paint and vibrant colors will bring their sculptures to life and captivate every budding artist. All materials included. Dress for mess!
