Moy Glidden (1916 - 2005) was born in Philadelphia. Glidden attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in the 1930s, studying with, among others, Daniel Gerber of the Pennsylvania Impressionist school and Arthur B. Carles. It was undoubtedly through Carles’ influence that Glidden began developing her interest in color and abstraction.
In 1935 Glidden met Jane Piper in Daniel Garber's class. The two women worked and studied together throughout the 1930s, and influenced each other’s work through sharing models and critiques.
In the 1950s, Glidden became more focused on working in the Abstract Expressionist style. Her works used bright colors and often used recognizable shapes from nature, such as trees and flowers. Glidden continued to exhibit through the 1980s.
