Gammon, Reginald

Gammon studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now University of the Arts) and Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where he shared a studio with Charles Pridgen. After moving to New York, Gammon joined Spiral, a group of African American artists who gathered to exchange ideas about art and civil rights. After Spiral disbanded, Gammon and Benny Andrews formed the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition, a political group concerned with discrimination in the arts. Gammon taught at Western Michigan University from 1971 until 1991 and then retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continued to create new work.
