Corson, Charles S.
Description
Charles Schell Corson was born to an established Pennsylvanian family name and studied in Philadelphia at Drexel Institute and the University of Pennsylvania. As a landscapist, Corson created impressionist paintings in oil and meticulously detailed charcoal renderings his natural surroundings. Corson was a member of several artistic organizations in the city, including the Philadelphia Art Club and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 1909-10, and at the Philadelphia Art Club, in 1915 and 1917. He also worked as an illustrator for a small number of books, including Contrary Mary and The Glory of Youth by Temple Bailey. Sadly, Corson died in 1921 at only 39. Due to the small scale of his works, they are rare to come across in the present day.
