Kurtz, Elaine

1928-2003

Description

Elaine Kurtz (1928-2003) attended and later became an instructor at the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts). She exhibited at Locks Gallery in Philadelphia and other museums and galleries across the United States. Her work was the subject of a retrospective exhibition at Woodmere in 2012. She began using earth and natural minerals in her work in the late 1980s and early 1990s, finding beauty in beach sand or farm soil, and having these natural materials sent to her studio from great distances.
