Description
Krimmel was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1809, settling in Philadelphia. He took classes and became a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, along with artists like Rembrandt Peale and Thomas Sully. Considered America’s first genre painter, he depicted scenes of everyday life in Philadelphia. Krimmel died in a swimming accident at the age of 35.
