Matthews earned a BA in painting from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Art Alliance, Moore College of Art and Design, and Arcadia University.
