Brooker, Moe
Description
Brooker grew up in Philadelphia and was influenced by his jazz musician brother and the aesthetics of bebop. He compares his artistic process with striking a chord on a piano, though you may be familiar with individual notes, discovery happens when you hear them as a chord. Brooker’s work is in public and private collections including the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Montgomery Museum of Art in Alabama, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Woodmere Art Museum. The artist has held faculty positions at New York’s Parsons School of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Moore College of Art & Design. He is also a member of a gospel choir.
