Spencer was a member of the New Hope artist colony that included artists such as Daniel Garber and William L. Lathrop. His work is in the collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA, the Delaware Art Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
