Description

The Hope Plantation, located near Windsor, North Carolina, is painted here under a sprawling blue sky which dominates much of the work. This residence, built in 1803, was home to David Stone, a United States Senator. Though surrounded today with considerably more trees, the landscape remains much the same as the painting, resting on an expanse of grass.
