Throughout his career, Schofield painted Cornwall’s famous cliffs, rocky shores, and sea views. These works were popular, and he made them in small, medium, and large sizes to suit his collectors’ needs. The spontaneous energy of this picture suggests that he may have started it outdoors and completed it later in the studio.
