The act of filling my painting with dots, which are units and cells charged with a special and personal meaning, is a practice reflective of a Zen exercise. The work is a constant act of finding and losing, remembering and forgetting, asserting and denying, inventing and destroying.
-Juri Kim
From a distance, Kim's painting looks like a glowing field of red and orange. Up close, a grid of red dots emerges from a red and yellow surface. The pattern repeatedly spells out the painting's title, Melancholic Exception, in Braille.
