Frances M. Maguire (1935–2020) was an artist and philanthropist, who, with her husband James J. Maguire, founded the Maguire Foundation. All of Woodmere’s decisions in renovating this building, which is named in honor of a lead gift from the foundation, reflect Frannie’s love of art, nature, children, and the great diversity of Philadelphia’s art community.
Amoudi, one of Frannie’s favorite teachers, portrays his friend and student in radiant yellow, the color of sunshine. The artist also employs the full spectrum of the rainbow to capture her beauty, generosity, and fearless capacity to embrace all aspects of life.
Amoudi is an award-winning painter with an extensive national and international exhibition record. His work has been shown at Woodmere, the Biggs Museum of American Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). He received his MFA from PAFA and his BA from Helwan University in Cairo, and studied aesthetics at the Barnes Foundation. He teaches painting at Woodmere, PAFA, the Main Line Art Center, the Wayne Art Center, and the Perkins Center for the Arts.
