Dessner wants viewers to have an instinctive, physical response to his paintings. Poured Orange Blue offers an indeterminate space of saturated color and seemingly atmospheric fluctuations of matter and light. The artist mixed his own paint, combining powdered pigments with buckets of latex media. He poured thick layers of handmade paint directly onto large canvases that he spread across the floor of his studio. Edges seem to barely contain the swirling colors as they gain momentum and flow across the painting’s surface.
