Description

Collected by Woodmere's first director Edith Emerson, Roses is a floral piece with a delicate chorus of blossoms. Born in Camden, New Jersey, Florence V. Cannon's talent as an artist was recognized early. She studied at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Arts and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and received the Academy's Cresson Traveling Scholarship in 1928-29. A noted artist and teacher, Cannon was a member of the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Plastic Club, and Print Club. In 1939 she was a founding member and first president of the American Color Print Society.
