Description

Williams’s print is from a series focusing on Civil War sites where African Americans fought and earned their freedom. The Schuylkill Friends Meetinghouse Grounds was a stop on the Underground Railroad and is located on North Whitehorse Road in Phoenixville. There are no monuments or indicators of the historical significance of this site other than Williams’s image. The artist has long documented unmarked locations that are an important part of our shared history.
