Description

Spring Bouquet fills the canvas with rich color applied with loose, graceful brush strokes. A rainbow of flowers extend to all corners of the composition from the vase. Although Van Sciver never worked with Arthur Carles, it is likely she knew him in Chestnut Hill; the intensity of her palette and her gestural approach suggest the degree to which Carles’s brand of modernism extended across the Philadelphia arts community.
