Description

"The painter feels . . . vividly, but with his eyes and emotional responses."

                                                                                                                  Roy C. Nuse

Nuse often painted the gardens, streams, farms, and the quarry near his home in Rushland, Pennsylvania. In this painting, a large, claylike quarry sweeps upward, showing where the green surface of the earth has been removed. A sunny countryside is visible beyond. With short, staccato strokes of paint he creates a soft atmosphere in the distance that is distinct from the crude sculptural formations in the foreground.
