Woodmere's annual juried exhibition, Seeing the Story, highlights contemporary work in a wide variety of media by artists living within fifty miles of the museum. This year's juror, David Wiesner, has selected works of visual, narrative art. The exhibition will be accompanied by an illustrated digital catalogue.
About the Juror
David Wiesner is an author and artist who creates picture books, graphic novels, and digital narratives. The focus of his work has been wordless storytelling. He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
David has been awarded the Caldecott Medal three times – for Tuesday in 1992, The Three Pigs in 2002, and Flotsam in 2006. Three other books of his, Free Fall, Sector 7, and Mr.Wuffles were named Caldecott Honor Books.
Among other honors, David has received the top picture book awards in Japan, France, Germany, and South America. He was the 2008 United States nominee, and a finalist, for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. He is currently on the faculty of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
David has had solo exhibitions of his work at the Dallas Museum of Art; The Sungkok Art Museum and the Hyundai Museum in Seoul, Korea; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; the Grand Rapids Art Museum; Cinteca Di Bologna in Italy; the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Group exhibitions include the Art Institute of Chicago; the Chrysler Museum of Art; the Museum of Art Rhode Island School of Design; the Brandywine River Museum of Art; Museum EKI, Kyoto Japan.
