Bartlett, Bo

Born in Georgia, Bo Bartlett is an American realist painter. In 1974 he jump-started his artistic career at 19 by travelling to Florence to study under the artist Ben Long. Upon returning to America, he took up residence in the Philadelphia area, attending art courses at the University of the Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), also studying under the master painter Nelson Shanks. Bartlett became good friends to artist Andrew Wyeth through Snow Hill, a film created over the course of five years, on the life and work of the artist. Through his often large scale works and a modernist vision, Bartlett strives to bring forth the beauty within the commonplace scenes of American life. Inspired by the works by the likes of Thomas Eakins and Andrew Wyeth, his dreamscape works attempt to convey universal concepts in their narratives. Bartlett’s work can be found in the collections of institutions across the United States, and has exhibited widely, nationally and internationally.
