Description

Joseph Hirsch (1910 - 1981) was born in Philadelphia, PA. A socially-minded realist, Hirsch served as an artist correspondent during WWII. He spent 1928 - 1931 at the School of Industrial Art (now University of the Arts). While he wanted his work to show his beliefs, Hirsch never did any propagandist work, which was common for artists at this time, though he would do heroic portraits humanistically.
