In 2005, when Brown turned thirty, she began considering the impact that her past partners had in shaping the adult she had become. She began creating a book for each of them, in remembrance of their time together. She also made a digital print that she attempted to share with the men. Brown called this series of work A Chronicle of Lovers. The books are glued shut and the imagery and symbols are decipherable only to Brown and the man the book was made for. Reliving the emotions associated with these relationships was part of the process, and, for Brown, part of a larger inquiry into what defines modern love, sex, and romance.
