Les Études Manneporte

Throughout her career, Diane Burko's artistic dialogue has been with nature, creating stunning and sweeping canvases of the colors and contours of the earth. Her search has taken her around the world, observing and interpreting the particulars of water, sky, and land. In 1986, Burko traveled to Paris, and then drove from Brest along the Brittany and Normandy coasts. There she created numerous studies of the cliffs of Étretat, France. Manneporte is the name of one of the three arches at Étretat, which is best known for its cliffs and its natural arch. The cliffs and the associated resort beach have long attracted artists, including Gustave Courbet, and Claude Monet.
