Zones of color create spatial ambiguities in Bush’s small but powerful wintry landscape. An oblong black polygon—perhaps a frozen pond—dominates the composition. Bristly black lines anchor the mass to the top and bottom of the canvas. The soft green foreground slopes gently from left to right, offset by a steely gray that could be an ominous sky or dense forest.
A Mississippi native, Bush came to Philadelphia to earn her MFA at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After graduating in 2012, she exhibited her work at the Philadelphia Sketch Club and Gross McCleaf Gallery. She then returned to her home state to teach at the University of Southern Mississippi.
