Description

[verso top center over two columns in black ink]: Episode VII / The 19th Century; Scene / Washington Irving / at / Sunnyside; After he has received his / distinguished guests - there is a / dance on the lawn. Twelve couples / in three groups of four each - dance / a minuet. / The colors in the first group (to the right) / are varying tones of red - from pale to / deep rose - in the [illegible] gowns. / In the second group - white / and in the third - varying tones / from light to dark blue - flowered / or doted [?] with white. / While they dance - a table is brought / out & set upon a small platform. / Colored servants / they light the candles on the table & / set cake & wine [?]. / The dancers gather around the / table in a circle -- speeches & toasts.
