Description

During the Great Depression, Dox Thrash found success working as a commercial artist in Philadelphia. He designed posters for the Tra Club, an African American art association, and the Second Annual National Negro Music Festival.

While enjoying commercial success, Thrash produced this painting of a nude dancer. The figure balances on one foot, while holding two flowing scarves in her hands. Thrash outlined her with a dark pencil, and colored and modeled her body with watercolor.
