In this brightly colored abstract work, Dox Thrash departs from his typical landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. Here he experiments with a more modern aesthetic, inspired by the geometries of Cubism and the colors of Fauvism. He fragments a jovial clown into heavily outlined rectangles, squares, and triangles. The figure’s orange arms, eyes, and nose contrast with the blue shading and light green background.
