Description

A strong blue line cuts through zones of purple. The edges of shapes are blurred and forms are simplified. Cotter relies on direct applications of paint on the canvas. This surface is a fluid intersection of thoughts, marks, and images. Speaking about her work, Cotter explains, “It wasn’t conscious—it just evolved. People always want to know what made me switch from realism to abstraction, but it wasn’t switching. It was seeing things in a broader way, a different way.”
