Description

In the early 1960s, Bechtle stopped painting in oil on canvas and began creating abstract compositions in watercolor, sometimes squirting or dripping ink as a starting point. He painted every day and produced hundreds of vibrant compositions like this one. Here the bright yellow reflects the “sun” in the title. The torn fragment of a review mentioning artist Kenneth Noland was apparently intentional, with Noland’s target paintings suggested by the circular forms.
