Julian of Norwich, also known as Juliana of Norwich, was a fourteenth-century Christian mystic, theologian, and anchoress (one who withdraws from society to pursue a life of intense prayer and asceticism). Her Revelations of Divine Love is the first book in the English language known to have been written by a woman. The work is a record of Julian’s visions of Christ, which came to her during a serious illness and ended with her recovery.
