Description

As a social realist, Albert Gold specialized in depicting the quotidian experiences of the working class. Instead of showing industrious labor, as he did in Market Workers, here he shows a group of slumbering dock laborers, their heads resting on wooden beams. Down for a midday siesta, likely due to long hours of exertion, the workers will soon arise and begin work again. Gold also portrayed a sleeping figure in his painting Dozing.
