The brass section of a band marches forward in this lithograph. Albert Gold focuses on one musician, carefully rendering the details of the man’s contorted face as he blows into his trumpet. The artist uses a variety of lines to create the textures of the scene, from the musicians’ gelled hair, to their skin, to the luster of their metal instruments. Gold, who was fascinated by scenes of everyday urban life, also took performers as his subject in the lithograph Mummers.
