Like many of his other artworks, Bramblett also buried this canvas in the snow. But rather than waiting until the cold froze the work, thus enabling him to snap the edges as he had on the others, he says, “I thought if cold could snap edges, what would heat do? So I used a blowtorch to bend other edges. I was also exploring the corner folds, or placing corners on the side and on the front of a surface. In White Face, the layers of paint were too thick to fold, so the painting got to be dog-eared. Had it not been a snowy winter, these works might have taken an entirely different direction.”
